LG got good processing power and 2GB ram, you can run any game without any lag with inbuilt powerfull Adreno 320 GPU. Samsung Galaxy s3 is light in weight and good camera performance.  Optimus G has the 32 GB inbuilt memory but not SD card support, Samsung has 16 GB memory and memory can be expandable up to 64 GB.

Both phones offer more or less the same software features. Samsung offers two extra unlock methods but LG offer clock style unlock. Samsung TouchWiz is Smart stay prevents the screen from locking as long as the front-facing camera can see your face. LG offers similar feature with Wise screen.  LG’s QSlide feature is almost same as Samsung’s Pop up play. Optimus G does have Dual Screen Dual Play – You can share your screen on TV or monitor, Galaxy S III has an MHL-enabled microUSB port it just mirrors the phone’s screen on the external monitor.

Both smartphone contains the equal good software for regular use. I liked both phone software personally. I like the Samsung android update release schedule for its android but LG lags in android OS upgrade.

LG Optimus G over Samsung Galaxy S III

  • Best in class chipset, with new CPU and GPU architectures
  • Sharper screen with HD-IPS
  • 13MP camera + 1.3 front camera
  • More compact
  • 2GB RAM

Samsung Galaxy S III over Optimus G

  • Better sunlight legibility
  • microSD card slot
  • Lower price

Conclusion:  Seems LG like a power house, the S3 is much more desirable, has a better performing camera, and  UI that has been tried and tested. I liked the Samsung android upgrade policy.

Share your thoughts which one you want to buy/ preference which help to other user/android fans ?

Open source software for developer

February 15th, 2013

I have come up with best ten must to have open source software for Software developer and web designer. In this series we have considered Linux based software it will works on in Linux platform.

  1. Ubuntu OS (http://www.ubuntu.com) : Linux (also known as GNU/Linux) is a computer operating system. It is one of the most prominent examples of open source development and free software; unlike proprietary operating systems such as Windows or Mac OS, all of its underlying source code is available to the public for anyone to freely use, modify, and redistribute. Some of the most popular distributions are Ubuntu, Mandriva, Red Hat, and Suse. We are using Ubuntu from couple of year without any issues. Recent release Ubuntu 10.04 is stable one and it comes with feature rich applications. Also it support you can auto upgrade or install new application from ubuntu stores.
  2. Open Office (http://www.openoffice.org) : OpenOffice.org is a free and open source office suite, including word processor, spreadsheet, presentation, vector drawing and database components. It is available for many different platforms, including Microsoft Windows, Unix-like systems with the X Window System including GNU/Linux, BSD, Solaris and Mac OS X. It is intended to be compatible with, and compete with, Microsoft Office. It supports the OpenDocument standard for data interchange, and can be used at no cost.
  3. Firefox (http://www.mozilla.com): Mozilla Firefox is a free, open source, cross-platform, graphical web browser developed by the Mozilla Corporation and hundreds of volunteers. Firefox includes an integrated pop-up blocker, tabbed browsing, live bookmarks, support for open standards, and an extension mechanism for adding functionality. Although other browsers have some of these features, Firefox became the first such browser to include them all and achieve wide adoption. This is my favorite browser from 2007. You can find any plugin used to enhance to browsing experience.
  4. Mozilla Thunderbird (http://www.mozilla.com): An email client, such as Outlook Express or Outlook, is the most crucial piece of software on any PC used for electronic correspondence. The leading open source offering, Mozilla’s Thunderbird, aims to shrug off the competition by being better organised and offering ease-of-use extras which can endear it to its owner. Version 2, just out, has added several new features and improved on existing ones to strengthen its position. Like its Web browser companion Firefox, Thunderbird 2 has to steal market share from software which is supplied free with Windows. Although Outlook Express is less of a competitor for Thunderbird than Internet Explorer is for Firefox, there’s still inertia against switching from the software supplied by default.
  5. PHP (http://www.php.org/): PHP is an open-source, reflective programming language. Originally designed as a high-level tool for producing dynamic web content, PHP is used mainly in server-side applications.
  6. Apache Server(http://www.apache.org/): Apache HTTP Server is a free software/open source HTTP web server for Unix-like systems (BSD, Linux, and UNIX systems), Microsoft Windows, Novell NetWare and other platforms.
  7. MySQL (http://www.mysql.com/): MySQL is popular for web applications such as MediaWiki or PHP-Nuke and acts as the database component of the LAMP and WAMP platforms (Linux/Windows-Apache-MySQL-PHP/Perl/Python). Its popularity as a web application is closely tied to the popularity of PHP, which is often combined with MySQL and nicknamed the Dynamic Duo.
  8. phpMyAdmin (http://www.phpmyadmin.ne): phpMyAdmin is a free software tool written in PHP intended to handle the administration of MySQL over the World Wide Web. phpMyAdmin supports a wide range of operations with MySQL. The most frequently used operations are supported by the user interface (managing databases, tables, fields, relations, indexes, users, permissions, etc), while you still have the ability to directly execute any SQL statement.
  9. Eclipse (http://www.eclipse.org) : A project aiming to provide a universal toolset for development. Open Source IDE, mostly provided in Java, Now it supports other language also. The Eclipse IDE is a great web development platform. Eclipse supports a wide variety of free plug-ins for PHP, JavaScript, SQL, and many, many more. It is easy to use and has many features like auto completion, syntax checking, code formatters, and a built-in web browser. It is highly configurable for to meet a wide variety of needs. Being java-based, it runs on any OS platform that supports a JVM.
  10. Bugzilla (http://www.bugzilla.org/): A Perl based software bug tracking system which can also be used for help desk support. Used by the Mozilla Foundation, creators of Firefox. Bugzilla is for any company (any size company) that needs to keep track of bugs for projects. It’s relatively easy to install and maintain and the cost does not keep it out of reach when strapped to a tighter budget.

Please leave the comments if we missed out any development tools/package we need to consider in next part of the blog.

LG Optimus L9 Review

LG Optimus L9 Review

This phone runs on Android 4.0 ICS, again LG disappointing with older version of Android as usual. Dual core processor is good enough to run the HD video, games and browse the internet. It got wifi direct and DLNA feature,  Directly play video on your wifi enabled HD Tv. If you have the LG cinema tv the this hand set comes with pre-installed application like  LG TV, LG SmartWorld etc.

Display

This phone has 4.7’’ IPS Capacitive Touch Screen. Display quality is excellent. Resolution of 960×530 pixels giving you brilliantly colour and clear pictures.  Gorilla Glass is missing in this indian version. You can watch HD video without any issue and support all type of codec.

Camera

Camera comes fitted with a 5 MP CMOS Auto Focus Camera. You can take the Full HD video, Video capture quality is also excellent. It failed to take the quality photo.

LG Optimus L9 comes packed with sensors like accelerometer, gyro sensor, proximity sensor etc. This mobile has an in-built memory of 4 GB that can be expanded up to 32 GB. 2.5GB memory you can get it for downloading the installing the application. If you want to install multiple big games at a times then you have to think twice before purchasing this set because you can’t transfer application to memory card because it is not possible in Android 4.0 ICS.

LG Optimus L9 handset pre-installed with Polaris Office, It help you to edit the office files, QMemo application helps to capture  moment and make it memorable by adding a comment to it. Then you can share these pictures with comments with its direct URL.

Another unique QTranslator Function that makes it easier to communicate with people of other countries and cultures. This translator will translate the words, phrases and sentence with this translator.

Stay on when you are out with it long-lasting 2150mAh SiO battery. Easily you can get 2 days in optimum usage. If you are heavy user then it lost in 1 day.

Conclusion: If you are hardcore gaming person then this is not a good handset for you. If you want to use for regular then you can go for it. If you want to download multiple big games then this handset is not good option for you. go for Samsung Galaxy s3. You can get this handset for 18000Rs in flipkart and it is good deal in this price.

Chevrolet Beat Diesel Review

February 9th, 2013

Chevrolet beat diesel TCDi Hatchback 5 seater car with 936cc engine launched in india in 2011. This car has the potential to become a game changer in the segment. It is cheapest diesel car in india(India vista not considered as Hatchback).  The Beat TCDI is the first sub-1 liter turbo-diesel hatchback in the market. It is giving the excellent mileage as company claims it is giving the 25.44 kpl.

This 936 cc 3-cylinder diesel is good for city limits. You can get the good picket and excellent mileage with less turbo lag. Chevrolet has done a good job with controlling the vibrations of the 3 cylinder diesel. Ride quality excellent even over rough road patches. There is absolutely no bounciness or bumpiness that cars like the i10 & Santro suffer from.

Turbo-lag is hardly a bother unlike other diesel variant in 2000 rpms. Torque is good once reaching 1500 rpms. You can drive with 2nd and 3rd gear in city condition. Short gearing is good for city driving condition.  If you want to get good picket then you should always change the gear once reaching the 2000 rpms.

What you like in Beat Diesel

  1. Well tested mileage is 16-18 kmpl in city & 22-24 kmpl in highway, all with A/c.
  2. Can cruise at 120 km/hr whole day in highway.
  3. Steering is light.
  4. Suspension is very good. Nice ride quality as well as decent handling.
  5. Brakes are fantastic.
  6. Excellent head lamps. Very good for highway driving.
  7. Less engine sound(not like other diesel car)
  8. Driving position very good for people with above average height. But bad otherwise. Front seats are good and comfortable for long trips.
  9.  It was the cheapest diesel car with a modern engine at the time of purchase. On Road 4.75L. Feels like a decent bargain.

What you won’t like in Beat Diesel

  1. Not a sprightly highway performer at all
  2. Compact 170 liter boot. 50 – 60 liters smaller than competition
  3. Very dull dark-grey interior shade.
  4. Some goodies missing (key-less entry, height adjustable driver seat) – Ask for these freebie
  5. Small rear window creates a claustrophobic ambiance at the back
  6. Too many blind spots on all sides. Will miss nearby objects like rock, divider etc, Driver should be ride with special care, should observer object before 5 meter.
  7. Music system strictly average.
Beat Diesel Review

Chevrolet Beat Diesel Review

Conclusion : If you are looking for diesel car and want to ride in city limit then beat diesel is the better option available in this segment. If you are tall then you can go for it. Take the test drive and decide.
